The Correspondence 2.0
Hello.
We’ve met before. More in the sense that I’ve been at this screen typing and shortly thereafter you probably have been reading words I very recently wrote and am now wishing I had edited more carefully. I regret and am delighted to inform you that the same is about to occur.
Welcome to The Correspondence 2.0. Two years ago I thought it would be fun to start writing more about music. I messaged a large number of my amazing friends in the Music Industry program here at Drexel, and met them all in the basement of a residence hall and somehow seemed like I knew what I was doing enough to convince twelve of them to write things for me, send them to me, and let me stress eat and drink coffee until 3 am editing their words only to posts them with more errors than they came with, and a hefty portion of my sanity.
I’ve been over-passionate, underwhelming, aggressive, passive and teetering on a mental breakdown most of the time. With my slow descent into madness, we started something really, really cool.
Now, after two unplanned summer hiatuses, and many failed re-designs we’re going for it.
Here’s what’s coming your way.
- Live Acoustic Performance
- Basement Show Recordings
- More Local Philly Music
- Editorials
- All of the same old Correspondence goodness you probably enjoyed
I’m really excited to announce the re-emergence of Sprinkle Kingdom, one of the coolest local basement venues and with it, The Rebel Base[ment] our new acoustic performance space. We’ll be hosting some awesome shows here, of which we will be recording to tape and then digitizing for your beautiful ears. We’ll also be bringing in some of our favorite artists to do some acoustic performances down there and talk about things. It’s a work in progress, and I’m still cleaning up old 40s and finding new homes for amps, drumsets and keyboards but once we hang the Christmas lights, I think it will really start to feel like home for us and the music we want to share with you.
I’d quickly like to thank all of the amazing people that have been writing for us up until now. They are dedicated, determined and truly incredible about going for the greatest talent out there. We’re working out some kinks on the site here, but once we’re all loaded up (and hopefully the owners of www.theCmusic.com) please go follow them on twitter and check out their bios and all of that good stuff. These are people you are going to want to know.
It’s almost two years ago now that The Correspondence became more than some tumblr I was trying to disguise as a more “real” thing to get me into college. Back then it was really just me talking about how excited I was about becoming part of this industry and how much I thought I wasn’t fresh-faced and naïve. One of the first things I wrote about then was about how much I despised the great talents of our time for not choosing to innovate and change. I don’t think I’m a great talent. But I do like change.
I hope you do too.
Best
